Revised cancellation , refund charges and TDR rules of Indian Railway train tickets ( effective 01.07.2013 )



Indian Railway had revised the cancellation charges and refund rules of the Train Ticket Cancellation. This revised rule will be applicable from 01.07.2013.

1. Cancellation or refund charges of Unreserved train tickets

Refund of fare will be made after deducting the clerkage charges (15 rupees).

a. If ticket will be cancelled within the 3 hours of the issue of the ticket.

b. If ticket issued in the advance then it should be presented for the cancellation up to the 24 hours of the preceding date of journey.

2. Cancellation or Refund Charges of Reserved Confirmed Train Tickets ( including e-tickets )

Cancellation Charges for the confirmed train tickets are below -

Note: - Cancellation charges will be applicable on per passenger basis. Please also note that the 25% or 50% cancellation charges will be subject to a minimum charge applies for “Before the 48 hours of the departure of the train”. No refund of confirmed e- ticket if a refund is filed after the two hours of the actual departure of the train.

For the night trains leaving between 9 PM to 6 AM refunds will be admissible within first 2 hours of the opening of the reservation office if there is no current reservation counter available at the starting station.

If party ticket or family ticket issued for more than one person and some passengers had confirmed reservation and some are on waiting list then full refund less clerkage charges (30 rupees) will be applicable for confirmed passengers if entire ticket cancellation is done before 6 hours and after 2 hours of departure of the train.

If Party ticket or family ticket is type of e-ticket and RAC/waitlisted passengers are not travelling then need to obtain a certificate from the ticket checker and file TDR within the 72 hours of the actual arrival of the train and send the certificate to IRCTC by post.

3. Cancellation or refund charges of Reserved Waitlisted or RAC train tickets ( including e-tickets )

Refund of fare will be made after deducting the clerkage charges (30 rupees).

a. If a refund is made up to 3 hours of the actual departure of the train. Same rule for e-tickets need to file the refund request before 3 hours of the actual departure of the train.

b. No refund after the 3 hours of the departure of the train.
Note: - If a confirmed reservation is made after the final preparation of the reservation chart then cancellation charges will be applicable according to the Reserved Confirmed Tickets.

4. Cancellation or refund charges of Tatkal train tickets

a. No refund on confirmed tatkal tickets.

b. For RAC/Waitlisted refund will be granted according to the rule of Cancellation or refund of Reserved Waitlisted or RAC Tickets.

c. For a family or party ticket same rule of party or family tickets of Cancellation or refund of Reserved Confirmed Tickets will be applicable.
